Business Analyst

June - August 2020 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

I liked how they really made an effort to give us a real internship experience although it was all online. We had virtual happy hours and game nights.

What I wish was different

I wish we talked to other interns more rather than just our team, however, I feel like this would have happened if we were in person. I also wish they kind of gave us an idea of what to learn or what tools we’d be working with beforehand so we didn’t waste time getting started.

Advice

Connect with your managers! They’re nice and meant to help you!

Software engineering / development internship

June - July 2019 • Mobile, AL

What I liked

I learned a ton! The technologies used and roles I played gave me skills and know-how that put me above the rest in the job market down the road. I can’t thank CGI enough for the learning experience.

What I wish was different

Less competition. Although CGI encouraged teamwork, the interns were also in a very competitive mentality that made working with them very difficult. A lot of my time was spent navigating these relationships.

Advice

Be yourself and don’t worry about what others are doing, but try as best you can to contribute to team building and communication.

Technical Intern

June - August 2019 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

I enjoyed working with my team on web accessibility testing. My managers cared about my performance and wanted me to succeed. I was able to work extend my knowledge on real IT accessibility projects and proposed solutions that would be beneficial to the internal clients.

What I wish was different

The workload was manageable, but it would be an even better internship if I had more challenging projects.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask feedback from managers.

Intern

June 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

This was a real life work experience, you have so much learning opportunity and room for growth. The people here are so accommodating and are willing to help you advance your professional career in any way!

What I wish was different

Working in the Richmond office, this was the first time they had interns. I wished they had more intern specific projects instead of working with the actual team the entire time. There were times certain tasks could not be assigned to me because I did not have enough knowledge at the time which put me at a standstill. With an intern project at least I had that to fall back on if it did not work out.

Advice

Ask for help when you need it and make your goals very clear so that you are helped in the best possible way.

Intern

June - August 2017 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I really liked working in a professional environment on a team driven towards meeting the client's needs.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had more specific goals for the interns in terms of objectives. The company assigned me to a client site which was great, but my role there was unclear to the team I was on. They were in a very tight spot in their schedule and didn't know what to have me work on some of the times.

Advice

Just be open to new ideas and prepared to learn a lot. Always ask a lot of questions.

Business Operations Intern

June 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

The members of CGI's Pittsburgh office were extremely welcoming and eager to have my on board when I first joined. There was so many things to learn when I started, and the people that I worked with made sure to keep a focus on my learning track. The experience I gained at my internship with CGI is invaluable.

What I wish was different

Looking back now, nothing really.

Advice

Make full use of the learning tools CGI gives you when starting out. It can be a bit of an information overload when being onboarded, but there are so many tools that interns can access from the get-go that can really benefit you later in your career, in terms of gaining common and general industry knowledge.
